Sharon Jo (Malott) Ellis

Sharon Jo (Malott) Ellis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at the age of 75, just days before her 76th birthday. Born in La Junta, Colorado, on March 22, 1950, to the late Gerald (Jerry) Malott and Annabell (Weybright) Malott, Sharon lived a life marked by devotion, warmth, a sharp intellect, and unwavering love for her family. Sharon grew up in Swink, Colorado, where she excelled academically and cultivated her gentle spirit. She graduated with distinction as Salutatorian from Swink High School in 1968. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Southern Colorado State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1972. Her dedication and talent were recognized when she was awarded the American Society of Women Accountants Denver Chapter Merit Award for the Outstanding Senior Woman Accounting Student in 1972, a testament to her early professional promise. In 1970, Sharon married Daniel Woods. They resided in Pueblo, Colorado, where their son, Michael Woods, was born in 1976. The family then moved back to La Junta, where their daughter, Konnie, was born in 1978. Shortly after Konnie’s birth, the family returned to Pueblo, Colorado, in June of 1978. Sharon began her career as Fiscal Officer for Pueblo Action, Inc. Sharon’s first marriage dissolved in 1981, Sharon’s professional journey continued to flourish when she joined the Pueblo County Department of Social Services on August 1, 1985, as an Accountant I. Over her remarkable 26-year career with the Department, she steadily advanced, becoming an Accountant IV in early 1998, and later ascending to the crucial role of Chief Fiscal Officer after the transition out of the Merit System. Sharon took immense pride in her work, managing the department’s complex accounting functions, overseeing the Fraud and Medicaid Transportation programs, and serving on several influential committees, including the RMS and Allocation committees She was always available to offer her expertise, providing invaluable information and insight regarding current and upcoming DSS accounting issues. During this fulfilling period of her life, Sharon met the love of her life, Allen Ellis. They were Wed in August of 1987, embarking on a beautiful partnership that would last 38 years. In the summer of 1988, Sharon, Allen, and the children moved to Pueblo West Colorado, where they built their home and created lasting memories residing there until her condition required more skilled care the last 8 months of her life. After her well-deserved retirement, Sharon joyfully embraced her many hobbies and cherished her role as a grandmother. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren: Damian Fletcher, and later, Connor and Annabelle Woods, and Tyler Chace. She found immense pleasure in bowling, golfing, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, reading, various arts and crafts activities, and playing with her beloved kitties. Sharon was a devoted wife, a guiding mother, a doting grandmother and a cherished friend and sister. She is survived by her loving husband, Allen Ellis; her son Michael (Barbara) Woods; her daughter, Konnie (Matthew) Chace; her grandchildren, Damian (Lynn) Fletcher, Connor and Annabelle Woods, and Tyler Chace; and her brothers, Carl (Diane) West of Arizona, and Patrick Malott of La Junta. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Annabell Malott. Sharon’s remarkable like, characterized by her intelligence, dedication, and boundless love, will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness and unwavering commitment to her family and community will forever be etched on their hearts. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sharon’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. This meaningful gesture will honor her memory and support a cause close to their hearts, helping to advance research and provide support for others affected by this disease.
