Francisco “Frank” Montez, 82, formerly of Trinidad, passed away on November 24, 2021 in Pueblo West, at the home of his sister, Maria Montez, with whom he was living. He had fought Parkinson’s disease for 30 years. Frank was born in Delagua, Colorado to Manuel and Rosario Montez, He was a Trinidad High School graduate and a Veteran of the United States Navy. After his Naval service, he settled in Denver, where he successfully opened and managed a video store. He had resided in an assisted living facility in Denver before moving to Pueblo West. While at the assisted living facility, Frank discovered he had a talent for water color painting, primarily landscapes. His art work graces the homes of some of his extended family, as well as several others which he was successful in selling. In addition to his art, Frank enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He spent many hours planting and maintaining the flower beds at the assisted living home, and later when he was able at his sister’s home. He also enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino’s in Cripple Creek, CO with his sisters. Frank is survived by a brother, Genaro (Mary Alice) Montez of Lakewood, CO; sisters, Aurora Mestas of Colorado Springs, Elisa (Albert) Poorman of Kearney NE. Maria Montez, of Pueblo West, CO and Charlotte Lorio of Bush, LA; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anita Jaramillo; brothers-in-law, Ignacio “Nash” Jaramillo, Fred Mestas and Dale Lorio, Frank willed his body to the University of Colorado School of Medicine, for research on Parkinson's, hoping that a cure would be found for that debilitating disease. He was active until his death.
